Winter School

The H2OforAll project proudly participated in the Winter School on Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) and Disinfection By-Products (DBPs), held in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. As part of the event, several key members of the H2OforAll team—including Professor Rui Martins, Professor Luísa Durães, Evangelos Pournaras, and Daniela Meilmann—actively contributed to the Co-Creation Workshop: Future Challenges in the Drinking Water Sector – Public Engagement, Communication, and Raising Awareness.

During the round table, several thought-provoking questions were posed to the audience to better understand public perceptions and attitudes towards DBPs and water quality management. Questions ranged from assessing the severity of DBPs as a health and environmental issue to exploring preferred approaches for reducing their presence in drinking water. The discussion also delved into topics such as public confidence in local water safety, the importance of raising awareness, and effective ways to engage different societal groups in water conservation efforts.

These interactions provided valuable insights that will help shape the project’s ongoing research and strategies, fostering collaboration between experts, stakeholders, and the community.

Consortium Meeting in Sweden

The H2OforAll consortium gathered in Stockholm, Sweden, for its General Assembly Meeting on the 21st and 22nd of November 2024, hosted by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.

Key discussions included:
• Review of Achievements: Insights into the 1st review report, presented by Project Coordinator Rui Martins (UC), reflecting on milestones achieved.
• WP Updates: Presentations on advanced DBP sensing technologies, risk assessment, sustainable treatment methods, and public engagement strategies by respective work package leads.
• Innovation Visit: A visit to the Sjöstadsverket Water Innovation Centre showcased cutting-edge solutions in water management.

7th International Seminar on Aerogels

On September 18th, Professor Luísa Durães from the University of Coimbra represented our team at the 7th International Seminar on Aerogels in Hamburg. She delivered an insightful presentation on “Amine-modified Aerogel Adsorbents for Removal of PFAS from Industrial Waters,” sharing advancements made under the H2OforAll project.

4th International Conference on Disinfection and DBPs

The H2OforAll project was honoured to be present at the 4th International Conference on Disinfection and DBPs held in Almería, Spain. This conference provided an exceptional platform for researchers, scientists, and industry experts to exchange insights and advancements in water disinfection practices and the management of disinfection by-products (DBPs).

Our team had the opportunity to share the latest project developments and discuss innovative solutions aimed at enhancing drinking water safety.

H2OforAll at CIPOA 2024 – Brazil!

We’re excited to announce that H2OforAll was present at the 6th International Congress on Advanced Oxidation Processes (CIPOA) in Brazil! Our team participated in this important event, sharing insights on innovative solutions for water treatment and disinfection by-products (DBPs) management.

European Researchers’ Night 2024

We are thrilled to share that the H2OforAll project was present at the European Researchers’ Night in Coimbra! 🌍💧

Our team engaged with the community, especially the little ones, through fun and educational games focused on water science and sustainability. It was a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation about the importance of water quality and environmental protection.

Consortium Meeting in Coimbra

In July, the H2OforAll consortium met in Coimbra (Arzila) for a practical demonstration of the water quality monitoring sensors developed within the scope of the project. This event brought together researchers and project engineers to demonstrate the technological advancements and capabilities of the sensors in detecting and monitoring contaminants in drinking water.

Survey – Residential Water Quality

We invite you to participate in an online survey to contribute to the work done in WorkPackage 6 of the H2OforAll project. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete, and we recommend using a mobile device for the best experience.
With this survey, we aim to understand the conditions that you would considerfavourable when asked to undertake action in your household to safeguard waterquality and your willingness to collaborate with the local water authorities. Theaggregated results of this survey will be used as part of a larger study in framework ofthe
H2OforAll
research project, and might be published as part of a research paper.
Any questions about the study can be directed to
e.pournaras@leeds.ac.uk
The research has been subject to ethical review at the University of Leeds, with thefollowing authorization code: EPS FREC 2024-1659-1907.
