Summary Report 2nd H2OforAll Workshop (online stakeholder engagement) “Prevention measures and management of DBPs in drinking water (Disinfection by products)”

The H2OforAll consortium is conducting a stakeholder engagement activity to address the management of disinfection byproducts (DBPs). The consortium group has opted to host multiple workshops on-line, involving stakeholders in the drinking water sector. These workshops aim to understand current and future concerns regarding DBP formation and gather recommendations on prevention measures for inclusion in the final public report due in November 2025. Afterwards, these recommendations will be delivered upon by industry experts, policymakers, and other pertinent stakeholders.

This report covers the second workshop in this series, which was held online on 10th December 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM CET.

H2OforAll Webinar “Preparing Drinking Water Supply Systems for Climate Change – Case Study Insights”

The H2OforAll project, in collaboration with SafeCREW, will host a crucial webinar on April 3, 2025, titled “Preparing Drinking Water Supply Systems for Climate Change – Case Study Insights” (register here). This online event will bring together leading researchers, regulators, and water supply operators to tackle the challenges posed by Disinfection By-Products (DBPs) in drinking water.

Moderated by Mathias Ernst (DVGW Research Centre, TUHH), the webinar will feature expert presentations on key topics such as sensor placement for DBP detection, strategies to prevent DBP formation, and insights from water quality monitoring initiatives and DBP detection in Ukraine and Ireland. Notable speakers include Aristotelis Magklis (CYENS Centre of Excellence), Andreu Fargas (Consorci d’Aigues de Tarragona), Serhii Martynov (National University of Water and Environmental Engineering), and Valerie McCarthy (Dublin City University).

With climate change affecting water systems globally, this event will highlight the importance of proactive water management strategies to minimize DBPs and enhance resilience. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and contribute to shaping future water safety solutions.
